HOW TO SMELL & STAY FRESH

There is a connection between self-confidence and physical well-being hence smelling fresh and staying that way is important as it impacts our self-confidence.

Although body odour is completely natural, it still doesn’t feel, or smell very nice if you notice an odour coming from yourself, or anyone else. At NIVEA we’ve got all of the advice you need, on how to stop body odour - such as armpit smell, and how to prevent body odour from happening in the first place.

We get body odour when our body sweats, this sweat then meets with bacteria on the skin’s surface, which causes an unpleasant smell. Looking at what the main causes of body odour are, we know that some people are more susceptible to body odour, armpit smell, and sweating more. Don’t worry though, sweating, is a natural and normal process in which our body takes when regulating temperature.

There are certain techniques on how to stop body odour, and how to prevent body odour. This can depend on whereabouts your body releases the most smell, and this can differ from person to person.

Your body’s scent has a lot to do with cleanliness, but genetics and even what you eat can also influence the way your body smells.

You can’t do anything about genetics. And might not want to cut out a lot of the foods that can cause an odour, like broccoli, garlic, and fish, because they’re delicious and good for you. You can, however, control cleanliness.

How often you should shower depends on your skin type, activity level, and preference. We recommend that you shower at least twice a day with the NIVEA reviving fresh fruit shower gel.

If you do a quick cleanse, focus on the body parts with the most sweat glands, such as the:

  • Armpits
  • Groin
  • Butt

Drink Plenty of Water

Whoever said the words "water is life" definitely wasn't kidding. Body odour is a natural occurrence mainly caused by sweating. Sweating is your body's way of regulating your inner temperature, but it can also make your body lose a lot of water.

Losing too much water will leave you dehydrated and that will make you weak, tired, and bring your performance to an all-time low. Dehydration also makes bad smells stronger, especially in our mouths.

Drinking enough water is the best solution to keeping your body hydrated and diluting some of the bad scents in your mouth. You need to take at least 8-10 glasses of water per day to keep your mouth from dryness and bad breath.

Moisturize your skin with scented lotions or creams

If the scent of your body lotion, cream, or oil is all the fragrance you want, you can make the scent last by applying it to your skin right out of the shower after patting off excess water. Scented lotion, or any scented product for that matter, will last longer when applied to a moist base.

We recommend our oil in lotion range for a pleasant fragrance which will also leave you feeling pampered.

Be Careful What You Eat

It almost goes without saying but bad breath can ruin any outfit. No matter how good you smell on the outside, if you’re breath isn’t on par, your look won’t be either. Luckily, there’s an easy way to avoid this. When possible, avoid foods that are naturally more pungent. Onions, garlic, and fish can all lead to bad breath.

If you’re worried you might need to eat these foods, carry around a small toothbrush kit, mint gum, non-alcoholic mouthwash or breath spray to freshen up your breath mid-day.
